Traditional Alternative Fuels definitions include ethanol, biodiesels, electric vehicles and hybrids, as well as various gaseous fuels. Formerly identified as Alternative Fuels at Swagelok, Gaseous Fuel Vehicles focuses Swagelok closer to those alternative fuels that have greater opportunities for fluid handling applications such as: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Hydrogen (H2), and Liquefied Propane Gas (LPG). Opportunities are often focused on two main applications for each fuel type: fuel systems on vehicles, and the filling stations that support them. Vehicles are often segmented by light duty (LD) and heavy duty (HD), and stations are segmented by mobile and stationary opportunities.
These gaseous fuels are chosen by consumers because they often may reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and when utilizing their bio versions, are almost carbon-neutral. Added to this are economic benefits in many regions with fuel costing sometimes less than half of gasoline or diesel.
Swagelok is building application content around three primary gaseous fuel opportunities:
- Compressed Hydrogen
